CPCRN uses the following definitions:
1- Pre-leg miles are miles from their home to the location where they pickup a dog.
2- Leg miles are miles driven in possession of the dog(s), until the dog or last dog has been handed off or is at the destination.
3- Post-leg miles are miles driven back to their home after handing off the dog or last dog if they started with more than 1 dog.
For drivers who start out from home with the dog, pre-leg miles will be zero.
For drivers who are the last leg and the dog is going home with them, post-leg miles will be zero.
For drivers who have 2 or more dogs and are going to be taking the last one home (they are the foster or adopting family), again post-leg miles will be zero.
Routing for determining mileage will use the most direct route from home to pickup to handoff and back to home.
